The current use of 'hoffi' prob derives from purist reaction to 'licio' ('hoffi' used to mean 'praise, admire', etc). 'Licio' was borrowed from English and tended to displace constructions like 'mae'n dda gen i', 'rwy wrth fy modd â' etc'. Without 'licio' there'd be no 'hoffi'! 'Lico' yn gyffredin iawn yn y de-orllewin ond efallai fod 'hoffi' yn fwy cyffredin yn y de-ddwyrain. A dyma ateb "CapS":
A mae pobol sy'n licio pethe hefyd yn tueddu i lyfio pethe hefyd. Tra bod pobol sy'n lico pethe yn fwy tebygol o ddwli ar bethe.
